Food/Nutriants

Food

We feed our GS Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Canine Formula because this food is sensitive to their stomachs and contains probiotics. I will never be that breeder who tells you what you HAVE to feed your puppy, each puppy has their own needs. Although, I will always recommend; Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canine, Diamond Natural, or Merrick.

For our puppies, we feed them Purina Pro Plan High Protein Chicken and Rice Formula Dry Puppy Food. It is very important that you keep them on this food until you make an easy transition for the food you'd like them to eat. Although, of course, Id recommend always feeding your new puppy this food. Please keep your new puppy on puppy-designed food for the first two years as it will play an important part in their growth. Always talk to your vet if you think a different food would be better for your puppy's specific needs and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

Deworming

Every month our adult dogs are dewormed and given a few days of probiotics to keep them healthy and living their best life.

When their stomachs start acting up, another good supplement we use is, FortiFlora. It is always a good idea to have this on hand for when your dog has some stomach issues because sometimes there is just no way around it.

Also, something easy to get at your local store that is great for an upset stomach is natural pumpkin.

Each month they are also given K9 Advantix II for flea and tic medicine.

I recommend keeping these regimens going as your puppy grows!

Supplements

For large/giant breeds it is vital for their health, bones, and joints to give them extra nutrients of some sort. GS are not fully grown until around 2 years old. When you first get your 8-week-old puppy, their joints are not fully developed, so please keep that in mind when letting them play and run around. At this kennel, we give all puppies and adult dogs  Dasuquin with MSM Please check out their website to learn more about their supplement. Another supplement I support is Zesty Paws. They have a wide range of vitamins to support your dog and its specific needs.
